Cavaliers Reserves CompleteThe Double....!!!!!

Furness Cavaliers 2-1 Furness Seniors

Goals from Steve Morgan and Steve Bamber, made sure that Cavs progressed to the Horne Cup Final and a date with Furness Rovers 'A'. Furness Rovers 'A' beat Millom 'A' 2-1 in the other semi final. It was a sturdy and steady performance from the lads from Rampside Road. But they are still on for the league and cup double.

Furness Cavaliers Res 3 v 2 Furness Rovers 'A' at Training Pitch

Cavs reserves completed the season by winning the Horne Cup. This made sure the lads completed the league and cup double. Two goals from co-manager Mark McGladdery and one from Rob Spence made sure the cup was heading down Rampside Road for the first time in Furness Cavaliers history.

Furness Cavaliers Res 2 v 0 Haverigg Utd Res

The reserves won their final league game of the season, 2-0 at home to Haverigg Utd. This win ensured that Cavs remained unbeaten in the league all season, a mean achievement, considering they were only relegated from the Premier Division only last season. And swiftly making a return back to the Premier League at the very first attempt.

Milnthorpe Corinthians 1 - 2 Furness Cavaliers

Furness Cavs ended the season on a very high note, as they won away from home at promotion elect Milnthorpe. It was a game that Cavs deserved to win, even though the hosts had a couple of chances at the end hoping for a draw that they would not of deserved. Attention must turn to next season now and try and make a serious push for promotion.

West Lancs League Result

Furness Cavaliers 3-1 Askam United at Rampside Road

Cavs got back to winning ways, winning this local derby against Askam. As early as the first minute Chris Lysons put Cavs into the lead to make it one nil. Marc Ayres made it two nil soon after. And Marc Ayres got his second of the game with a tremendous shot which had Scott Dempsey, the Askam keeper rooted to the spot. Cavs were awarded a penalty, when Dempsey brought down Ayres. But Dempsey redeemed himself to guess the right way and deny Ayres a first half hat trick for which he deserved. Half Time 3-0.

Ther second half brought more Cavs pressure, but some poor finishing in front of goal kept it scoreless in the second half for Cavs. Askam pulled a goal back with twenty minutes left. The result was never in doubt as Cavs looked solid throughout. From the back which was led well by Lee Rodgers and Mike Hillman all the way to the front, by the excellent Marc Ayres and the two Lysons brothers.

Full Time 3-1.

TO THE MEMBERS OF FURNESS CAVALIERS F C

Some members may be concerned at the recent press report stating that Barrow Borough Council are considering taking legal action regarding Rampside Road being the site of a Plant Hire operation. As Secretary of Furness Cavaliers I can assure you that we are not running a Plant Hire business but we are most definitely trying to get planning permission for the additional pitches.

You may recall that once upon a time we had two pitches.  One was waterlogged for most of the winter which isn’t very helpful when the football season runs from August to April! The Committee took the decision to try and progress the club by undertaking a scheme to reclaim the vast areas of gorse and bramble to increase the area available to us. It was suggested that by filling in areas where the land fell away it would allow the creation of a third pitch if we turned the pitches round by ninety degrees. The cunning plan was undertaken but we didn’t bargain for the state of the pitch. On excavation it became clear that the drainage problem was down to the fact the pitch was laid on a hard packed layer of concrete and clay. Digging down to lay drains was impossible so the only way was up! At this point the Town Hall were more concerned that the metal containers that we had been using to store equipment in for several years needed to be moved to more secluded position on the site. With Plant equipment on site, the metal containers were suddenly an eyesore.

We commenced the process of filling in the “new” pitch and some months later it was suggested that we needed planning permission to do this because the levels were likely to rise up to a metre. The plans at that time included the installation of the portakabin for extra changing facilities and moving the metal containers.

When the plans were submitted there were concerns over a package of “contaminated material” that had been placed on site. This had been done with the full knowledge of the Environment Agency and conformed to the specifications laid down. We also had a problem with the National Grid. A high pressure gas line runs along our boundary and there is an agreement that we have to keep an easement to safeguard the pipe. After negotiation with the National Grid, we were forced to give up additional land to maintain the integrity of the pipe.

The next bone of contention was that some allotment holders were worried that what we were doing was causing flooding of the beck that runs above the gas pipe. Naturally the massive amount of rainfall at the time was not a factor; it had to be caused by work at Cavaliers! Nevertheless, a ridiculously over indulgent drainage scheme was then added to the plans. Incidentally, one of the planning committee at the Town Hall is Eric Wood, a Barrow Island councillor who has an allotment at Roose.

It now seems that the raising of the levels to different heights is the latest reason why the plans are not quite acceptable so we still can’t get them passed. There are massive “bunds” at Biggar Bank and other pitches are on split levels. Parkview, Thorncliffe/Youth Fields and BAE Sports Club are three that spring to mind.

If planning permission had been granted when it was first submitted, we would have three pitches now and Haughin & Co would no longer be on Rampside Road.

Saturdays Results

Furness Cavaliers 1-1 Glaxo Ulverston Rangers at Rampside Road

An Andrew Oxley goal 20 minutes from time, was not enough to earn Cavs three points. After both teams went in at half time 0-0. Occo put the home side in front with a nice back heel to fool the Glaxo keeper. But with 10 minutes left prolific scorer John Rattigan netted in the equaliser unmarked at the far post. It is yet another draw for Cavs, when if they could of turned the one points into three points, they could of been in an automatic position to be promoted.

Walney Island Res 1-6 Furness Cavaliers Reserves at Tummerhill

Cavs reserves took another giant step in securing the league title, with an awesome first half display. Goals came from, Mark McGladdery, Mike Robinson, Rob Spence, Scott Linklater, substitute Jordan Hughes and an own goal. The win means Cavs only have to win two of their remaining four games to be league champions at the first attempt.
