Vickerstown 'A'  1 -  1  Furness Cavs Res

Cavs Reserves shared the spoils against a strong Vickerstown side. With the home side playing 4 of their 1st teamers, Cavs will be dissapointed that the better chances fell to themselves but could not turn the chances into goals. It was Vickerstown who opened the scoring, when with their only chance of the half,  a near post corner was glanced in by the home striker. Although Vickerstown enjoyed plenty of posession in the 1st half, it was Cavs who created the better chances, McGladdery going closest on a couple of occasions. Half - Time 1-0.
The 2nd half started very much the same as the 1st. With 20 minutes left, Cavs decided to go 3-4-3. This sure paid dividends as Scott Linklater equalised from the 6 yard box. Cavs did have a few more chances but not really troubling the 'town' keeper. With minutes left Vickerstown had a rare opportunity to win the game, but for an excellent 1 on 1 save from Johnny Horrocks. Cavs still remain unbeaten for the time being, and overall deserve to still be, against strong Vickerstown 'A'.

Furness Cavs Res 4-1 Grange Res

Cavs enjoyed a comfortable victory against Grange, with Steve Bamber getting his 1st 2 goals of the season, the 1st being a right cracker from midway in the Grange half, this goalcoming right bang on half time. Cavs should of been at least 3 or 4 up by half time but for some good goalkeeping and strong winds, half time 1-0. Steve Bamber made it 2-0 when a scramble in the box, Steve poked home his 2nd of the game, much to his own delight of scoring 2 goals in a match. Grange reduced the deficit with a free kick that sailed into the net with a major helping of the Irish Sea wind. Pat Staunton came on Callum Mclaughlin, and immediatley making an impact with 2 goals for himself. It was a good team performance considering some players played in different positions than their usual and a bit of rotation within the squad.

Furness Cavs Res 1-0 Furness Seniors

Cavs won a very hard fought battle against a Furness Seniors side boasting a few ex Cavs players. The goal that eventually won the game for Cavs came from co-manager Mark McGladdery, 'Gladys' reacted the quickest in the area to slot the ball past Seniors goalkeeper Si York, who was by far the best player on the pitch, making fine saves in the 1st half to make sure both sides went in at half time scoreless. Although Cavs forced the better chances themselves throughout the game. Seniors certainly had chances themselves, hitting the bar and a couple of fine saves from Cavs keeper Johnny Horrocks. Seniors should of had a penalty in the 2nd half, but their protests were waved away.  In the end Cavs were grateful of the 3 points, but Seniors could of come away with at least a point. This will be 1 of if not the hardest game of the season the lads will of faced, against a very experienced side.

Walney Island 'A' 1-5 Furness Cavs Res

Goals from Spence, Townsend, Benson, Prescott and substitute Jordan Hughes gave the rezzers a 5-1 victory over basement side Walney Island 'A'. With leading 4-0 at the break and missing top goalscorer Mark McGladdery possibly for the next few weeks, the lads must of thought a few more goals were certainly coming. But this was not the case as Cavs only managed 1 in the 2nd half, thanks to a mistake in the home sides defence, credit to Jordan Hughes who finished very well though. The 1st half saw Cavs play some good football on a firm but rather bumpy Biggar Bank. 4-0 at the break was a true reflection on the game itself, and it could of been more. In the 2nd half,  the home side switched to a 3-5-2 formation and caused Cavs quite a few problems earlier on, Cavs decided to switch to a  4-5-1 formation, and this stemmed the Walney side from attacking. Although Cavs did not play to their full potential in the 2nd half, they looked very dangerous on the break. Best for Cavs was Scott Linklater and Chris Benson, with a special mention to Chris (chopper) Horrocks for his tireless display in defence.

Millom 'A' 0 - 5 Furness Cavs Res

Cavs produced their best 60 minutes of football all season to move 5 points clear at the top of Division 1. During a shaky first 30 minutes, Cavs did take the lead when Mark McGladdery's thunderous shot came back off the post and fell to Mike Robinson who slotted the ball into the net for his first goal of the season. During the first 30 minutes,  Millom did have a couple of chances, but were thwarted by Cavs keeper Johnny Horrocks. The last 15 minutes of the 1st half Cavs started to get their rythym together, testing the Millom keeper on a number of occasions as well as playing neat football. Half Time 0-1.

The 2nd half apart from 1 Millom chance, Cavs totally dominated the half. The second goal was not long in coming,  when top scorer Mark McGladdery made it 2-0 with a cool finish. Mike Robinson got his second when one on one with the home keeper to make it 3-0. Robbo completed his hat trick in the 73rd minute when once again he found himself one on one with the keeper, to cooly finish. Cavs  really did threaten to make it more, and substitute Scott Linklater made it 5-0 right at the death. Considering  that Cavs had hardly played since November, the result and performance especially after 30 minutes, was excellent indeed. It was a good all team performance from everyone on the day, but special mentions for Mike Robinson, for his 3 goals, and Rob Spence for his tireless work in centre midfield.

Holker O B 'A' 2-6 Furness Cavs Res

A stunning 1st half display from Cavs saw them 4-0 up at the break, and should of been a lot more. 1st half goals from Rob Spence, Mark McGladdery and 2 Mike Robinson goals were what the lads deserved at half time. But playing up the slope in the 2nd half Cavs found it hard work having already thought the game was won. Full credit to Holker for pulling it back to 4-2 as it was what they fully deserved. The score never looked in doubt for the lads, as they managed to weather the small storm that Holker threw at them. And Mark McGladdery added 2 more to his tally to complete his hat trick. The 1st half was certainly the key in this victory, as Cavs have 6 more games to ensure to finish in top spot come the end of the season.

Furness Seniors 2-6 Furness Cavaliers Res

Cavs took another massive step to securing the league title, with a tremendous victory over the Seniors. The win was overshadowed though by home defender Mark Rawlings who sadly broke his leg in the 1st half. Everyone at Furness Cavs wish Mark a speedy recovery and well wishes. A brilliant 1st half hat trick from top goalscorer Mark McGladdery (1 penalty), and 1 spectacular goal from Mike Robinson ensured the away team went in 4-0 up at the break. Seniors did have one or two chances themselves but  some poor finishing made sure Cavs were always in control of this game. The 2nd half began with Cavs facing a wind that certainly got up even more in the 2nd half, and with some resolute defending led by Lee Rodgers and Paul Honeyman. Seniors scored first in the second half when striker Cheddar unleashed an absolute beauty. Cavs responded quickly to make it 5-1 thanks once again to Gladys, and Robbo got his second to make it 6-1. Cheddar scored his second to pull the score back to 6-2, and this is how it finished. It was great result for the lads as Seniors are no pushovers at all. And the result was even sweeter as Kirkby and Wanderers could only manage a draw against each other, to leave Cavaliers 7 points clear with 5 games to go.

Walney Island Res 1-6 Furness Cavaliers Res

An awesome first half display from the potential league champions, ensured that the result was never in doubt. An own goal in the 29th minute kickstarted the goal spree. A great run and cross from Mike Robinson was put into his own net by the Walney defender. The second was quick in coming when Rob Spence hit a low shot which gave the keeper no chance. Scott Linklater made it three with a cool finish and just before half time top goalscorer Mark McGladdery made it 4-0. Half Time 4-0. The second half Cavs decided to go through the motions, and it took a Walney goal from Jon Paul Roche to give Cavs a kick up the backside. Mike Robinson had another mazy run and somehow managed to score when it seemed impossible. Substitute Jordan Hughes made it 6-1 with a cool finish. The score should of been greater than this, but the win now only puts the lads within two games of getting the league title sewn up. Special mention must go to Chris Horrocks as he put in another great display.

Furness Cavaliers Reserves 6-3 Furness Rovers 'A'

A hat-trick from top goalscorer Mark McGladdery, made sure that Cavs reserves remain on course for the league championship. The lads need only one point from their final three games.

Although it was a lack lustre performance from the elect champions, clinical and good finishing was the key to this game. Rob Spence got the goal fest started with a fine strike, which left the Rovers keeper stranded as he could only watch the ball fly into the top corner. Rovers then equalised with a quality strike from outside the area for 1-1. Cavs quickly made it 2-1, when Mark McGladdery got his first of the game. This was quickly cancelled out as Rovers once again equalised for 2-2. Mike Robinson made it 3-2, with yet another fine strike. Half-Time 3-2.

The second half brought pressure from Rovers for the first 10 minutes, but it was Cavs who scored the decisive goal. As yet again 'Gladys' scored his second of the game, to make it 4-2. A James Prescott run brought about a fantastic goal from himself for 5-2. Rovers yet again came back with another great stike for 5-3. But 'Gladys' had the last laugh as his hat-trick sealed the game from the penalty spot, for the final score of 6-3.

Cavs did play some good football at times, possibly being the final ball which let them down. Thanks goes to Mark Johns who refereed the game.

Furness Cavaliers Res 6-0 Walney Island 'A'

Cavs wrapped up the league title, with an emphitic win over Walney. The result was never in doubt throughout the game, as a hat trick from Jordan Hughes, two from Scott Linklater and a first league goal for defender Gary Evans. A heavy downpuor an hour before kick off, made the home pitch a mud bath. Cavs played very well and adapted to the conditions very well, Cavs still remain on course of going the whole season unbeaten in the league, but have sterner test, in their next home game against Barrow Wanderers.

Barrow Wanderers 2-4 Furness Cavaliers Res

A poor first half display from Cavs reserves found themselves one nil down at half time. Wanderers certainly made the extra man in midfield count as they passed and moved the ball around very well. It took until the 36th minute when a corner from Cavs left side found it's way to the unmarked Kyle McCormick, who headed through the legs of Scott Linklater which fooled keeper Johnny Horrocks. Some very sound goalkeeping from Johnny Horrocks certainly kept Cavs within a shout for the second half. Half Time 1-0.

A half time talk was very much needed in the Cavs dressing room, and they surely delivered with what could be described as a tremendous second half display from the league champions. Cavs had a few chances to equalise but for some good saves from the Wanderers keeper. The pressure kept coming from Cavs and it paid off. Rob Spence found space on the right side, his pass found Mark McGladdery, who then found the unmarked James Prescott in the six yard box to slot into the empty net. Next Cavs won a free kick on the right and with a pin point cross, top goalscorer Mark McGladdery headed superbly into the net, which gave their keeper no chance. Wanderers didn't offer much, but they won a free kick on the edge of the Cavs area and Neil Silver hit a sublime effort into the Cavs net for the equaliser at 2-2. This only spurned Cavs back into action and Steve Bamber who had a tremendous second half hit a an effort, which we think was a tackle by Steve, into the bottom corner of the goal, and Cavs deservedly led yet again. But  Gladys had the last word with a clinical finish for a final score of 4-2. Cavs now meet Furness Seniors in the semi final and the double is surely on now for the lads from Rampside Road.

Furness Cavaliers 1-0 Barrow Wanderers

For the second time in two days, these two sides met again. And as of the first game Cavs came out on top. Cavaliers dominated from start to finish, but could only muster the one goal. Mark McGladdery scored the only solitary goal of the game after a Steve Morgan free kick was spilled by the Wanderers keeper, and Gladys was the quickest to react to fire the ball into the roof of the net. Cavs were guilty of poor finishing throughout the game and could of had the game dead and buried before half time. Captain Paul Honeyman collected the league trophy from sponsors Premier Tiles (Dave Staunton) after the game.

Furness Cavaliers Res 2-0 Haverigg Utd Res

Another victory for the lads from Rampside Road, made sure the reserves remained unbeaten for the entire season in the league. Defending the very strong wind, Cavs defence held firm throughout the first half. Chances were few and far between both sides. Half Time 0-0.

The second half was all Cavs pressure, and this duly paid off when Mark McGladdery's shot took a slight deflection off the visiting defender and scooped into the top corner. Scott Linklater rounded off the scoring with a cross come shot, which somehow found it's way into the net. The Rezzers can now concentrate on next weeks Horne Cup semi final, after polishing off a tremendous season in the league, from everone involved. Best for Cavs today were Steve Morgan in centre midfield and the Cavs defence for the first half performance.

Furness Cavaliers Res 2-1 Furness Seniors

Cavs won through to the Horne Cup Final against a very determined and unlucky Seniors side. Seniors dominated in the early stages and they were rewarded with a goal from Andy Herdman, who was unmarked on the far post and he drilled his shot past stand in keeper Scott Linklater. Cavs equalised shortly after when Steve Morgan hit his first time effort past Simon York for 1-1. Cavs were dissapointed with their first half display, and were hoping for a better second half.

The second half was much the same as the first half, but Seniors wasted one or two chances when one on one with Scott Linklater. But Cavs were pushing for a winner and this duly arrived. The ball found it's way five yards out of the Seniors penalty area, after good work from Sean Critchley and Rob Spence. Steve Bamber hit the winning goal which gave Yorky no chance what so ever. Steve's celebrations are something special when he scores too. Cavaliers did hold out for the remainder of the second half, and have a date with Furness Rovers 'A' in the final, on the Training Pitch.

Furness Cavaliers Res 3-2 Furness Rovers 'A' : Horne Cup Final

Cavs reserves completed their season by winning the Horne Cup. This ensured that Cavs completed the league and cup double, to achieve a remarkable season.

The game started brightly for the champions, a couple of chances went begging when it sometimes seemed easier to put into the net. The first goal was not long in coming as Cavs won a corner, and Steve Morgan hit a sublime cross to the far post and Mr Dependable, Mark McGladdery headed into the net for a one nil lead. Furness Rovers started to get a bit rythym going and had few chances themselves, but thanks to Cavs keeper Johnny Horrocks for pulling off a couple of tremendous saves (most notably the double save.). Half Time 1-0

The first thirty minutes of the second half Cavs dominated, they kept possession well. And within this spell Cavs increased their lead, another corner was headed into the net at the far post by Mark McGladdery for his second of the game. It was soon to be three nil, when Rob Spence hit a sublime effort over the keeper and into the net. Cavs sat back a little, and this spurred Rovers on. Rovers won a free kick on the edge of the area, and it was hit into the back of the net three one. With two minutes left Rovers got a another lifeline with a tremendous shot which gave Johnny Horrocks no chance. This proved mere consolation for Rovers, as referee Ste Butler blew for full time, and the celebrations started. Captain for the night was Mark McGladdery as this was his final game, as he has hung up his boots (again!!!). And he duly lifted the trophy in delight with the rest of his team mates.
